Hartville uses balanced attack to win Class 2 District 10 championship

Hartville started slowly in the opening quarter of the Class 2 District 10 championship against Gainesville, but the Eagles clamped down defensively in the middle two quarters to pull away on the way to a 62-37 win.

Gainesville came out strong against the top-seeded Eagles carrying a 10-8 advantage after one quarter.

Hartville regrouped between quarters an posted a dominant 17-4 second quarter to take a 25-14 lead into the break. The third quarter was almost an exact replica of the second with Hartville outscoring Gainesville 15-4. Both offenses picked up in the fourth quarter, but Hartville still came out on top in the final frame 22-19 to take the 62-37 win.

Only five players scored for Hartville, but all five scored at least eight points. Jalon Cryer (16 points), Mason Cogdill (13 points), Jackson Ward (13 points) and Boone Garrison (12 points) were all in double figures with Grant Culver adding in eight points to round out the scoring.

Gainesville’s Harmon Johns led all scorers with 20 points in the loss.

Hartville, ranked No. 2 in Class 2, will host No. 3 Eugene in the Class 2 sectional round on Tuesday.
