St. LOUIS – Missouri State’s Zack Stewart earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week again on Monday, making him the first baseball Bear since Jeremy Eierman (final award of 2016 and first of 2017) to win consecutive Valley Player of the Week honors.
The sophomore outfielder hit .375 and slugged 1.000 over four games last week, driving in six runs and scoring six times. After a quiet game Wednesday at Ole Miss, Stewart reached three times and scored in Friday’s win against Arkansas State.
Saturday, Stewart homered, doubled and scored three times versus the Red Wolves, then capped the week with his first career multi-homer gamer on Sunday, finishing 3-for-5 with two home runs, a single and a career-best five RBI.
Over the last eight games, Stewart is hitting .452 with a 1.097 slugging percentage and six home runs, and now has 18 career long balls in 66 games.
Missouri State (6-5) will play its next 11 games on the road, starting with a March 8-10 series at Central Arkansas.
