Lockwood softball will have five starters and 12 total players out for the team this season.
Gatlyn Clawson (senior) and Grace Wilson (senior) both earned all-conference, all-district and all-region honors last season. Clawson will miss the season due to an injury, but she will be helping lead from the dugout. Wilson will play up the middle on the infield and in the outfield.
Freshman Kallie Griffin and senior Adrien Neill will be the key pitchers for Lockwood. Griffin will play shortstop when not pitching and Neill will be at first base.
They will be throwing to senior Shae Gray behind the plate at catcher.
Senior Kelsey Daniel will be a utility player seeing time at each corner infield spot and in the outfield after playing catcher last year. Junior Mekenzie Weimer will see time at second base and in the outfield. Classmate Lexi Farmer will also be in the outfield.
Lockwood has a group of five freshmen including Reese Whitesell (outfield/first base), Jessie Thieman (third base/outfield), Gracyn Clawson (second base/outfield), Savannah Houtby and Griffin.
Lockwood opens the season Mar. 15-16 at the Joplin Area Tournament hosted by Purdy.
