Improvement will be a theme for Norwood baseball this season coming off a six-win campaign.
“All of our kids have made major improvements,” Norwood head coach Drew Miller said. “We were out of almost every game a year ago, this fall we competed and were in several games. I can see that improvement getting better as this spring goes on.”
Cooper Vaughan (junior pitcher/infielder), Noah Drake (junior outfielder), Gary Williams (junior pitcher/utility), Holten Lopez (sophomore pitcher/infielder), Caden Black (sophomore infielder) and Pierce Lawson (sophomore pitcher/utility) were identified as team leaders by Miller.
Freshman Brady Vaughan will handle the catching duties. The rest of the infield will feature Black at third base, Cooper Vaughan at shortstop, Lake Coatney and Carder Kelley at second base and Lopez at first base.
Lawson, Drake and Pete McCune will handle outfield duties.
“Our team is still young but very athletic. I believe our athleticism will keep us in several games and be our biggest strength,” Miller said. “We will need to improve on not letting little errors whether physical or mental affect the outcome of the game.”
Norwood opens the season on Mar. 15 at home against Hurley.
“I want our team’s identity to be a team that never gives up,” Miller said. “I want to be known as the team that plays hard until the last pitch.”
