Waynesville soccer has a new head coach in Joshua Mize this season. He takes over a program coming off back-to-back five-win seasons. It is Mize’s fifth year in the program after serving as an assistant coach for the past four seasons.
“We are returning 10 total varsity lettermen, but only five starters,” Mize said. “Senior defender Trinity Wimberly will be relied heavily on in a leadership role. Our key forward will be junior Sofia Mejia. Juniors Jordan Hanf and Kyleigh Saalmann will be a big part of our midfield veterans at that position. Seniors Trinity Wimberly and Madison Cox are for sure solid defenders for us. Senior Breona Hurd will be the starting varsity keeper. This group has put in a lot of work in the off-season, so no one player stands out as drastically improved. We will feature some young athletic talent this season as we look to build up our team identity as we move forward with a new season.”
Waynesville opens the season on Mar. 16 at Ozark.
