Halfway baseball has improved its win total in each of the past three years. The Cardinals are looking to make that four years in a row with seven starters returning from last season’s 16-win team.

The pitching staff will be comprised of senior Brayden Keene along with juniors Zach Laney, Brayden Doke and Isaac Ingram.

Sophomore Shane Gallivan will catch once again this season. He caught every inning last season as a freshman except when pitching.

Doke (first base), Peyton Timmerman (second base), Laney (shortstop) and Keene (third base) will be on the infield with Max McCarthy playing a utility role in his sophomore season.

Ingram will patrol centerfield. Michael Carter, Connor McCarthy, Porter Hensley and Jaden Turner are all pushing for outfield spots.

“We played in the district title last year and lost to eventual state champ St Elizabeth 5-0. We only lost two seniors from that squad and bring back a ton of experience,” head coach Eric Ingram said. “We have kids with great baseball IQ. At our level having that many return is a major strength.”

Halfway opens the season on Mar. 18 at Montrose.

“We hope to compete for both conference and district titles,” Ingram said. “We were in the hunt last year as we took second in both. We hope to take that next step”
