Athlete of the Week: Cade Nold, Dora track & field

When Cade Nold is racing toward the finish line, he does so with positive thoughts racing through his head.

“Being able to push through that, just the competition of the last 200 of the 800 [meter race], it’s just, it’s just encouragement,” said the Dora junior.

At last year’s state championship meet, that self-encouragement pushed Cade to new speeds and new heights.

“Last year was just unexpected, God just helps me,” Cade said. “He has helped me run that race the best I could.”

Two races in fact, as the junior captured state championship gold in the 400-meter and 800-meter.

“First place is a pretty monumental spot to be on that podium,” said Dora Track Head Coach Sheree Nold. “So, he’s hoping for first place again and putting in the work to get there.”

That work is easily noticed by his coach, who is somebody Cade also calls mom.

“As a parent [and] as a coach, I love that I get to be a part of it from both sides,” Sheree said. “I get to see the reward from a mom’s heart and I also get to be there every day with his training.”

In Dora, these Falcons fly together. Cade’s twin brother Josh is on the team and their older sister Autumn ran for Dora before graduating last year.

“We enjoy running with each other, I mean me and Josh we train together every day,” Cade said.

It’s that family support that helps Cade think those positive thoughts that propel him down the track toward another podium finish.
