St. LOUIS – Missouri State senior first baseman Cody Kelly was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday following a four-game stretch in which he reached base safely 11 times in 13 plate appearances.
Kelly slashed .750/.846/1.750 with two doubles and two home runs and reached safely in his first nine plate appearances of the week, beginning with a walk Tuesday versus Missouri.
The St. Michael, Minn., native came off the bench Friday at Valparaiso and went 2-for-2 with a go-ahead home run in the 12th inning, then reached four times on Saturday with a home run, double and two runs scored in a Missouri State victory.
Sunday, Kelly reached four more times, including a two-run double, in the Bears’ 14-3 series-clinching win over the Beacons. For the week, he drove in four runs, scored five and stole a base.
Kelly and the Bears continue their nine-game road trip Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at Missouri.
