ST. LOUIS – Missouri State softball’s Olivia Krehbiel has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today (April 23).
Earlier today, Krehbiel was also named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA D1 Player of the Week.
Krehbiel led the way for the Bears last week across four games and made MSU history in the process. She slashed .636/1.364/.692, which included 7 RBI, 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 2 walks across a 3-1 week for MSU. With her first of two home runs on the weekend, Krehbiel made history as she became Missouri State’s career home run leader, surpassing Jessie Smith’s previous record of 27 career homers set from 2006-09. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native also broke the MSU career record for runs scored with 124 in her career.
After knocking a leadoff base hit against the Kansas Jayhawks in the midweek game, Krehbiel’s bat caught fire in the series sweep of Valparaiso.
On Friday night against the Beacons, Krehbiel was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with six RBI, 2 three-run homers and three runs scored as she broke and extended the program’s career home run record. She didn’t slow down on Saturday, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and three runs scored. She knocked a leadoff double to open the game for MSU before drawing two walks as the Beacons pitched around her both times, including giving her a free pass to load the bases with no outs in the fourth inning. In the series finale, Krehbiel was 2-for-4 and drove in the game-winning run for MSU with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
This marks the second MVC Player of the Week honor for Krehbiel this season and the third of her career.
