Athlete of the Week: Ethan Mustard, Lebanon golf

Sometimes, time on the course means so much more than the numbers on a scorecard.

“Me and my dad just have that father and son bond just because we are both out here all the time,” said Lebanon junior Ethan Mustard.

Ethan’s dad wouldn’t miss a tournament or an opportunity to golf with his son.

“He likes to go watch me play,” Ethan said. “We like to play rounds of golf with each other. It’s just nice to have a dad who wants to golf with you all the time.”

So, it’s safe to say family is the reason behind the Yellowjacket’s love for the game.

It kind of just started as a family thing,” Ethan said. “We all just came out to the golf course when I was little and I kind of just picked it up from my grandpa and my dad.”

With support from mom, dad, grandpa, and grandma, he has a constant team to lean on. Ethan chips in with that same kind of support for his teammates

“He’s to a point now where his golf game is so sound that he’s really kind of a third coach out there,” said Lebanon Head Golf Coach Trey Overstreet. “And keeps morale high.”

Ethan is a back-to-back state medalist and his confidence shines in his short-game.

“Inside 50 yards with a wedge in his hand, he chips in or holes out almost every tournament,” Overstreet said.

Ethan says it’s all because of attitude.

“Just don’t get mad honestly,” Ethan said. “If you hit a bad shot, it’s a bad shot, you are going to hit those. You just have to stay calm and know where you are in the tournament.”

A drive that has his eyes on the district championship, a state title, and long-term aspirations to golf at the division one level. With a family that will always swing by to cheer him on.
