Logan-Rogersville shuts out Nevada to win Big 8 championship

Class 4 No. 1 Logan-Rogersville baseball used a strong performance from Ross Lawrence on the mound and a home run from Jackson Rousey to beat Class 4 No. 5 Nevada to win the Big 8 Conference championship on Tuesday.

Lawrence, a Missouri State signee, threw seven innings striking out eight allowing just four total hits and one walk in the game.

Caden Klumpp matched Lawrence through the first five innings by holding the Wildcats scoreless with seven strikeouts against two hits and four walks.

Klumpp gave way to a new pitcher in the sixth inning, and that was when Rogersville broke through.

Teagan Trent hit a lead-off double to get things going for Rogersville in the sixth inning.

Rousey then came up with the biggest hit of the game hitting a two-strike pitch out to left field to put Rogersville up 2-0.

The Wildcats were not done.

Carter Hill drew a walk on the next batter. Cash Clark came on to run for Hill and stole second.

After a strikeout, Rogersville got Charlie Greer on base via a hit-by-pitch. Jackson Parent came in to run. Zane Hunter laid down a bunt to push Clark and Greer to third and second base, respectively, with two outs and

Clark came home on a wild pitch to give Lawrence more than enough insurance ahead of the final three outs.

In the final inning, Lawrence sat Nevada down in order via pop out to shortstop, strikeout and ground out to third base.

Logan-Rogersville improves to 23-5 on the season while Nevada falls to 19-3. The Wildcats are the top seed and host for the Class 4 District 10 tournament. Nevada is the top seed for the Class 4 District 12 tournament being held at Belton. Both tournaments get going this Saturday.
