In sports, there is a saying, “If you look good, you feel good and if you feel good, you play good.” The Laquey Lady Hornets have taken that to heart.
“Most of our team, they hold a superpower when it comes to glam,” said Laquey senior Adrienne Miller. “We got girls who do nails and girls that do eyelashes. So, I think whenever we all get together we’ve all got our nails and eyelashes done we are doing it. We are doing the dang thing.”
That off-the-field bond is nothing new with seven seniors making up the roster for this Laquey program.
“I’ve played with most of these girls for eight plus years of my life and our connectivity is there,” said Laquey senior Hannah Thier. “You always know where they are at on the field because of that connection.”
Connection is vital to this team, as showcased by Hannah and Adrienne.
“When we were little we actually played different spots so we weren’t really near each other on the field, but last year I got moved up and the connection was just there instantly,” Adrienne said.
Hannah leads the team in assists and Adrienne leads the team in scoring.
“[Adrienne has] always been a center back,” said Laquey Head Coach Aaron Thier. “Last year I made the decision to move her to the mid-field because of her ability to score. Hannah has been a forward and her and Adrienne this season have actually interchanged a lot.”
Aaron is in on this connection, as Hannah’s dad. He’s known many of the seniors for years as they’ve grown up with Hannah.
“It’s actually pretty fun, but it’s a struggle,” Hannah said.
“I was like I am not going to be able to handle the difference between a second dad to a high school coach now,” Adrienne joked. “So I definitely think it was a stepping stone for both Hannah and I.”
“They are all often at my house getting nails done and things. When they are still at my house they call me coach,” Aaron said.
Thier’s team will try to take that look good, play good feeling to the final four. The Lady Hornets play Friday, May 31 at noon against Lutheran St. Charles.
