SPRINGFIELD – Former Missouri State catcher Drake Baldwin was selected Tuesday to participate in the All-Star Futures Game as part of Major League Baseball All-Star weekend. The seven-inning contest features some of MLB’s top prospects and takes place at 3 p.m. Central time on Saturday, July 13 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Through July 1 of this season, Baldwin is hitting .259 with seven home runs and 45 RBI across two levels in the Atlanta Braves organization. Since being promoted to the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers on June 11, the Madison, Wis., native is batting .306 with a .903 OPS, three homers and 12 RBI in 16 games.
Baldwin was drafted by Atlanta in the third round (96th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft, becoming the highest-drafted catcher in MSU history. He is currently rated as the No. 11 prospect in the Braves organization according to MLB Pipeline.
Baldwin’s draft year at MSU was one for the record books as he hit .341 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI, which tied for seventh on the Bears’ single-season record list. He reached safely in 57 of 60 contests that season and had a .448 on-base percentage for an NCAA Regional club. For his career, Baldwin was a .317 career hitter with 24 home runs, 104 RBI and 51 extra-base hits in 120 games, and his .994 career fielding percentage ranks second in Missouri State history.
