A quick Google search and you’ll find several mock draft articles that have former Lebanon and current Missouri State slugger Zack Stewart being selected early in next week’s MLB draft. Zack says their guess is as good as his.

“[I] don’t really know a whole lot there,” said Zack. “I mean I’ve heard things from up higher to lower. So we’ll kind of see what happens there. I’ll kind of know more towards the end of the week.”

But as the event draws near and his agency gets a feel for just when he may be selected, you still won’t hear him make any predictions. “I’m pretty cautious just because I don’t want to jinx myself,” he said. “I don’t want to say I’m going to be super high and then don’t go high. I don’t want to say I’ll go low and then be picked high. I just want to stay out of it and see what happens.”

And as he prepares for the biggest day thus far in his young baseball career there is one thing he can live without. “My least favorite thing is trying to keep everything quiet,” Zack said. “Trying to keep it out of the media. Trying not to let everyone know I’m going to be super high or anything like that.”

He does have a favorite thing too. “The best part is being around my friends and family just enjoying this moment. It’s something I’ll never probably experience again maybe and I just think it’s really neat.”

Just a kid from the Ozarks with a big swing, waiting along with the rest of us for his big moment.
