As local golfers tee off in their annual quest to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship tournament in Springfield, one thing hasn’t changed. “A couple of years ago I was closer than I was today,” said Kickapoo and Missouri State grad John Fuchs, who finished 11 shots back of the cut line. “But not today. Shooting a couple over is going to get you lapped by this field.”
Harrison’s James Greer did better than most from the Ozarks at Millwood Golf Club, finishing ten shots back of the cut line. “Today was just a day where you hit the ball great and nothing goes in,” said Greer. “I was pretty fortunate to make that last putt.”
Matthew Hoeman’s wife is from Springfield, making it a place he claims as home. So we get to claim him as the golfer representing our area with the best score at either qualifier tournament. He finished just three shots back of the cut line. “I played really solid,” said Hoemann. “I just had three three-putts. I hit every green. Well, the greens I missed I still putted so some people don’t but I still count it.”
And we’ll be counting on this tournament to be lots of fun this week even if none of our local golfers qualified.
