Veterans enjoy front row seat at Price Cutter Charity Championship

The game of golf has no age restrictions.

“I’ve been playing golf for 71 years,” said Price Cutter Charity Championship volunteer Denny Peterson.

It’s a sport that brings bonds on and off the green. At the Price Cutter Charity Championship, some of those bonds have nothing to do with golf at all.

“We don’t have to have credentials or they don’t have to qualify, we’re all just here to honor the veterans,” said Honor Flight of the Ozarks Director Walt Cameron.

Military veterans of all types get a front row view from the Honor the Heroes tent at hole number nine, sponsored by Honor Flight of the Ozarks.

“You can see it all from here,” said veteran Ronald Hauxwell. “It’s pretty good.”

But some veterans want to do more than just watch the future of the PGA Tour, like Denny Peterson.

“I’ve been out here for 30 years,” Peterson said. “I’ve been here for the honor flight, I’ve done driving, I’ve been a marshal captain, I’ve been on the marshal crew where I ran goody carts.”

Peterson began volunteering just two years after the tournament’s inception in 1990.

“It’s really been an experience,” Peterson said. “I’ve had pros stay at my house. And you keep in contact with them.”

It’s a memorable experience for the veterans. You can even say seeing these pros in action is a motivator to keep these heroes grinding on the course too.

“I’m going to live to shoot par,” Hauxwell said. “I’ll got to live to about 105”

Until then, these guys – bound by service to their country – will enjoy their love of golf, watching the rising stars of the PGA.

Tomorrow is military appreciation day at the tournament.
To start round three, governor parson and war vet greg mcmanus will hit a ceremonial tee shot
