A new face will patrol the Lebanon dugout this season, as Yellowjacket alum Kenyon Breedlove takes over a softball program that recorded a 13-19 record in 2023.
“This will be my first year at Lebanon High School after two seasons at Bolivar,” Breedlove said. “I would also like to add that Lebanon has a new assistant coach, Kailyn Hazlewood. Both Kailyn and myself are Lebanon graduates. I think this is important because it portrays the loyalty we have in our program and our school.”
A trio of seniors will lead the Jackets this fall in Gracie Gilby (.370 BA), Bailey Randolph (.304 BA) and Kaylee Howerton.
“Gilby will play a huge role for our team,” Breedlove said. “She brings a lot of energy and will be a great asset to the team offensively and defensively. Randolf will likely play a huge role in our outfield. Howerton will fill most of our team’s innings in the circle. She is a hard worker and a great leader.”
Breedlove also expects to see a significant impact from a talented group of varsity newcomers, including sophomore Erica Brown, sophomore Hayden McCormich, junior Witney Hehn, sophomore Daisy Chastain and sophomore Aleeiciah Coleman.
“Our expectations for the season are to create a buzz in our community for softball,” Breedlove said. “We will be very young in experience and plan to get a lot of people involved. We look to be connected to the community. We want a family.”
Breedlove believes his team’s success will depend largely on its ability to compete night in and night out this season, as it works to develop and improve.
“Softball is a long and fast season, and we look to be consistent throughout,” Breedlove said. “We need to be consistent not just in our play but also in the way we prepare.”
Breedlove also believes his team’s overall chemistry will help expedite the development process and foster a competitive spirit throughout the season.
“We have a team who gets along well and cares about one another,” Breedlove said. “When you know your team has your back and helps your play. Our team plays hard and will do so for all seven innings.”
Lebanon opens the season Aug. 30 in the Morrisville Tournament.
