Two handed bowling is striking to the average eye. But competitive bowler Spencer Robarge says it is has blown up in the past decade.
“It’s just a lot easier, to generate the power, to generate the ball speed,” said the 21-year-old competitive bowler. “To you know be successful.”
Spencer’s collection of hardware is proof of his success, but that hasn’t gone to his head.
“It’s just a lot of bowling,” Spencer said. “A lot of practice. A lot of tournaments. And a lot of time spent traveling.”
“He takes something from each experience and learns from it and he is better next time,” said Spencer’s mom Susan Robarge.
All the work brought him to the cusp of a moment every athlete dreams of: Representing his country in the sport he loves.
“When we got to when they announced who all was on it, I was like please let me be a part of this,” Spencer said.
Wish answered. Spencer earned a spot with Team USA in the Pan American Bowling Championship that begins August 18.
“I was eligible to make the junior team and the adult team, but I didn’t make the junior team weirdly enough,” Spencer said.
“Watching them live their dream and accomplish goals, and set new goals, it’s just the best,” Susan said.
Spencer will turn 22 at the Pan Ams. His birthday falls on a day that you can say is right up his alley.
“I think we are bowling doubles that day,” Spencer said. “I won a doubles gold medal the last time I bowled at the youth Pan Am games, so it would be kind of cool do that again.”
