Warsaw volleyball won five matches last season, which was the most since 2017. The rising Wildcat volleyball program returns five players who saw action in almost every varsity set last season and three others who saw varying levels of action on varsity.
While many names are the same, Warsaw will be making some changes to the way it plays.
“As we embrace new strategies and techniques this season, our focus will be on developing patience and trust in our defensive systems,” Warsaw head coach Kelsi Brosnahan said. “By staying confident and allowing ourselves time to adapt to these changes, we will be better equipped to execute our game plans effectively and achieve success.”
Haylee Cobb (senior outside hitter) led the team in kills with 140 last season.
“Haylee Cobb will be pivotal as a leader on and off the court,” Brosnahan said. “Her powerful hitting and proven track record in kills make her a formidable force.”
Hailey Ferguson is a junior middle/opposite who had 22 total blocks last season.
“Hailey Ferguson brings a calming presence and remarkable adaptability that will be crucial in tight situations,” Brosnahan said.
Howe, a junior libero, led the team in aces with 28 last season. She was second in both digs (221) and serve receptions (267).
“Tanna Howe is expected to shine defensively, providing exceptional coverage and stability in the back row,” Brosnahan said.
Sherrill, a junior middle, led the team in blocks with 28 as a sophomore.
“Adison Sherrill is known for her strong blocking skills, which will be essential in shutting down the opponents’ offense,” Brosnahan said.
Stevenson will be key to the offense at setter in her junior season. She was second on the team with 167 assists as a sophomore.
“Kaleby Stevenson has consistently demonstrated excellent court vision and setting skills that will be key to orchestrating our offensive plays,” Brosnahan said.
Mady Reimund (sophomore outside hitter), Maylee Slavens (sophomore middle) and Sara Miller (sophomore defensive specialist) all return with varsity experience with Elizabeth Winters (sophomore setter/opposite) and Julianne Kilgore (freshman defensive specialist) also looking to carve out varsity roles.
Brosnahan on Reimund: “Mady Reimund brings impressive hitting power and will be a key player at the net.”
Brosnahan on Slaves: “Maylee Slavens is already showing her ability to dominate at the net with strong blocking and smart reading of the opposing hitters.”
Brosnahan on Miller: “Sara Miller is set to enhance our defense with her sharp reading of the ball and solid digging skills.”
Brosnahan on Winters: “Elizabeth Winters has a keen sense of the game and exceptional setting abilities that will help elevate our team’s performance.”
Brosnahan on Kilgore: “Julianne Kilgore’s adaptability and strong court awareness will be invaluable as she contributes to our defensive efforts.”
“Our team’s greatest strength this year is our unwavering commitment to excellence and our strong work ethic,” Brosnahan said. “Each player is dedicated to pushing their limits and working together to achieve our collective goals. The energy and determination that each member brings to the court will be the driving force behind our success.”
Warsaw will jamboree in Warrensburg on Aug. 27 with Cole Camp, Appleton City and Warrensburg. The Wildcats open the regular season on Sept. 3 at home against Lincoln.
“This year, we expect to see a more cohesive and united team, working harmoniously to showcase their individual and collective talents,” Brosnahan said. “Our goal is to create a dynamic and supportive environment where every player contributes to our success and demonstrates their skills on the court.”
