Golf can cause frustration.

“In a Buffalo Ridge tournament, I hit it into a tree and I whiffed in the tree…twice,” said Glendale junior Page Bowman.

But for Bowman, she has figured out how to calm the nerves.

“Deep breaths, counting trees, thinking of the beach,” Bowman said.

After all, the best golfers never show when they are stressed.

“Most really strong players, you don’t know if they are having a bad day or they are having a good day,” said Glendale Head Golf Coach Ron Yocum. “Their body language is pretty much consistent.”

And this Glendale golfer is one of the best. Bowman is coming off her sophomore season as the Class Four state champion and was named the Missouri Junior Amateur champion this summer, but none of her individual achievements compare to the one she earned with her team.

“It was just so fun to win [state] as a team, especially my freshman year,” Bowman said. “It was really exciting.”

High school golf is just the beginning for Bowman.

“The recruiting process kind of just started for me,” Bowman said. “So, I’m going to start taking visits and we will see, I’m excited.”

For now she is focused on winning another state title, and has become a leader for the girls golf team. The Falcons may be lacking experience, but not the drive to be great.

“It’s great to have your best player be your hardest worker and be a friend to the other girls on the team,” Yocum said.
