Kickapoo football picked up the program’s first COC win in style taking down perennial power Webb City 26-23 at home on Friday.

Webb City got the scoring going with an Isaiah Tela eight-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. It capped a seven-play, 37-yard drive.

Kickapoo had the quick answer going 57 yards in four plays capped off by a Brooks Eaton to Jaxon Hill 28-yard touchdown to tie the game up at 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

Jackson Lucas got the scoring going in the second quarter for Webb City with a 31-yard touchdown run to put Webb City back on top 14-7 with 10:26 left in the second quarter.

As they did all night, Kickapoo had a response. The Chiefs needed one play to close the gap. Eaton hit Dan Prost for a 49-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the ensuing possession. The PAT failed leaving Kickapoo trailing 14-13 with 10:07 remaining in the second quarter.

Tela got his second touchdown of the game, this time from one yard out, to extend Webb City’s lead back out to eight at 21-13 with 7:02 left in the first half.

Webb City scored its final two points on a safety as Eaton ran out the back of the end zone to run the clock down to 0:00.

The Kickapoo defense was the star of the game in the second half holding the Cardinals scoreless. Three drives saw the Kickapoo defense stand tall on fourth down in their own territory to force a turnover on downs. The other Webb City drive ended in a fumble.

Webb City had the ball for 28:33 to Kickapoo’s 19:27. The Cardinals also outgained Kickapoo 385 total yards (332 rushing) to 307.
