Everyone is born with some confidence. For some, it glows naturally.

“I know what I know,” said Winona junior Lexi Lindsey. “I know that I have prepared. I’ve done everything I can. I’ve worked super hard.”

For others, they need a friend to bring that out. Just like how Lexi feeds the ball to Taylor Williams to show that inner firecracker.

“I would say I do bring out more confidence than I did before,” Taylor said. “Especially when things are going better I can step up and say okay I got this.”

Both girls have played volleyball together for years.

“We’ve played together since we were little,” Taylor said. “No matter our age we ‘ve always been together and we have played in the club season, off-season, everything.”

You can say Lexi was eager to play high school volleyball.

“She actually skipped the eighth grade to come play with us her freshman year, ” said Winona Head Volleyball Coach Jordan Denning. “We ran a 5-1 with an eighth grader and made it all the way to state.”

Taylor also started as a freshman, demonstrating the ideal teammate and player.

“Taylor Williams is the kid everyone wants on their team,” Denning said. “She will put in the work. She will do whatever is asked and she is a great teammate to the girls as well.”

They continue to make big contributions to their team, even if it means Taylor powers through an injury.

“I fractured my pinky.”

And Lexi proves that at 5 foot 2 inches she can get airborne.

“She gets touches on the block and we tell the other girls ‘she’s the shortest girl on the team and she is getting touches’ you can do it,” Denning said. “You’ve got to load and press and Lexi does that.”

There’s a lot more behind the connection of these two all-state players and the team as a whole.
But all it takes is watching them on the court to see how contagious their confidence is.
