After losing three to graduation, the Cabool Lady Bulldogs return three lettermen as they work to build on last year’s four-win record.
Chloe Overby was the team’s ball handler last year. “I expect her to take another step and be a more consistent player for us this year,” said head coach Rance Beller, who begins his twenty-first year at the helm. The sophomore averaged 11 points per game in her freshman season.
Lily Thiele is a junior whose offensive game is expected to improve. “Lily throws the ball in for us and is really good on the boards,” said Beller.
Sophomore Jordanna Atkins (5’7”) averaged 10 rebounds per game. “Jordanna is a high motor kid,” said Beller. “She plays really hard and is great on the boards for us. I expect her to improve on the offensive end and become a complete player for us this year.”
Sophomore Paige Moore “has the potential to really take a big step forward for us this year,” according to her coach. “She is a hard worker and I expect big things from her.”
Bristol McCall is a sophomore who could contribute on both ends of the court.
Newcomers include sophomore Jacie McMinn, who could have a big offensive role, and classmate Caylee Hamilton, who is showing promise in practice with her quickness and natural instincts.
Emma Webster (5’7”) is also a sophomore and possesses defensive talents. “I think her offense will catch up this year, and she could really give us some good minutes,” said Beller.
Freshman Nyelli Soto had a promising summer and could also contribute on varsity.
“We are going to be a very young team,” said Coach Beller. “We really struggled last year with making easy shots. If we can consistently get those easy looks to go in, and take care of the ball, we will be okay. We struggled with consistency last season, and I expect that to be better this season. I am very happy with the effort these girls play with; they play hard and they try to execute our game plans. They are a very fun group to coach and I really expect us to make strides this year to becoming a good team.”
The Lady Bulldogs open their season on November 22 at Plato.
