Humansville boys basketball has a new head coach in Jesse Carter this season. Carter has experience at the AAU level and in player development. He was previously an assistant at Humansville for the past two seasons.

Carter is a 2009 graduate of Humansville.

“I’m from here originally, played here and graduated from here in ’09,” Carter said. “(I am) just trying to build back the culture that this school and community has lost over the years.”

Ty Ahlers (senior guard/forward), Kylan Vorwark (senior guard), DJ Medley (sophomore guard), Joeseph Gordon (sophomore guard), Treven Henson (sophomore forward/center), Jaden Honeycutt (sophomore guard/forward) and Madix Butler (sophomore guard) all return for Humansville.

Carter on Ahlers: “Ty Ahlers comes back as a starter and will be looked at to carry a large load as our leader on offense and defense.”

Carter on Vorward: “Kylan Vorwark will be looked at as a menace on defense and help carry a load as senior.”

Carter on Medley: “DJ Medley will be returning and also looked at to eat up a bunch of scoring and defensive assignments.”

Carter on Gordon: “Joseph Gordon will be our new floor general as primarily our ballhandler and look to run our offense.”

Carter on Henson: “Treven Henson will be a big man in the middle to pull down rebounds and be our presence in the paint.”

Carter on Honeycutt: “Jaden Honeycutt will be a presence inside and out for defense and offense and be a big impact on the boards.”

Carter on Butler: “Madix Butler will also be a ballhandler and will be a huge contributor on both ends of the court.”

Russell Lee (sophomore guard), Tyler Myers (sophomore guard) and Dylan Parsons (sophomore guard) will all be in the mix for minutes.

Freshmen Tate Ahlers (guard/forward), Ricky Lee (guard), Austin Fry (guard) and Layton Kenney (guard/forward) will all look to make immediate contributions.

Gage McGuire (sophomore forward/center), Logan Kendall (senior guard/forward), Levi Patteson (freshman guard), Grayson Vorwark (freshman), Fred Haxby (freshman guard/forward) and Landon Finley (sophomore forward/center) will look to gain minutes and experience.

“We are very deep and have a good mix of newcomers and veterans and some much raw talent,” Carter said.

The Tigers have also shown a renewed focus on the weight room.

“These kids have been in the weight room for the first time in years and have really showed improvement in strength, speed and toughness that has been lacking for years,” Carter said.

Humansville will travel to Wheatland on Nov. 18 for a jamboree with Osceola, Climax Springs and the host Mules. The Tigers open the regular season on Nov. 22 at the School of the Ozarks.
