Glendale and Central swimming earn team trophies at Class 1 state meet

The Glendale boys swimming team got back on the podium at state on Saturday for the first time since winning three straight championships from 2019 through 2021. Glendale placed second as a team with 172 total points.

Central also earned a podium spot with 166 points good for fourth place. It is the first team trophy for Central swimming in program history.

Parkway Central won the team competition with 266 points. Clayton was third with 169 points.

Both Glendale and Central did not have any individual state champions, but instead used great depth to bring home trophies.

The Falcons had seven all-state (top eight) finishes on Saturday. The top finish came from the 200-yard medley relay team of Sawyer Andrews, Hudson Andrews, Carson Butler and Jackson Van Eps. That quartet swam a 1:36.26 to place second overall.

Sawyer Andrews and Butler along with Carter Roberts and Connor Cook earned a sixth-place finish in the last event of the meet the 400-yard freestyle relay. Their time of 3:18.67 helped secure the second-place trophy.

Butler earned two individual all-state honors placing third in the 100-yard butterfly (51.44) and sixth in the 200-yard IM (1:55.87).

Sawyer Andrews (fifth in the 100-yard backstroke) and Hudson Andrews (eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke) also earned top eight finishes for Glendale individually.

Central had three relays earn all-state places. The 400-yard freestyle relay of George Wood, Quinn Smith, Jonas Tetlow and Jason Allen combined to swim a time of 3:16.45 to place third in the event. The fifth-place finishing 200-yard freestyle relay featured Brayden Miao, Smith, Tetlow and Allen combining for a time of 1:30.24. Smith, Tetlow, Miao and Maxwell German earned a seventh place finish in the 200-yard individual medley relay with a time of 1:40.55.

Allen earned two individual all-state places, taking third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.47) and fifth I the 100-yard freestyle (47.95). Tetlow’s lone individual event was the 100-yard butterfly where he took fifth. Miao had two all-state showings as an individual placing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (52.08) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.38).

Greenwood’s Nathan Wu had the highest individual finish of any area swimmer placing second in both the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.34) and the 100-yard breaststroke (56.11).

Nevada’s Kolton Evans (seventh in the 100-yard backstroke) and Carthage’s Braxton McBride (eighth in the 50-yard freestyle) also earned all-state honors.
