New Heights Christian boys basketball won its third district title in four seasons posting a 19-11 record last season.
Three starters in Jayce Walker (senior point guard), Ben Schumacher (junior shooting guard) and Adam Stanton (junior forward) are the returning starters.
Walker runs the point and scores at all three levels. Schumacher averaged 8 points per game as a sophomore. Stanton tallied 9 points per game last season.
Cannon Miller (junior guard), Broderick Burns (sophomore guard) and Jadon Smith (junior guard) also return after seeing varsity action last season.
“We were blessed to go far into the playoffs with a lot of kids who had just made varsity for the first time. I’m praying we act like we’ve been here before from start to finish,” New Heights Christian head coach Steven Harrel said.
Rebounding will be key for success for New Heights.
“This year we have to take care of the ball and rebound,” Harrel said. “We are smaller than we were last year, so we need to rebound as a team every possession.”
New Heights opens the season on Nov. 25 at home against Miller.
