Warsaw boys basketball returns its full starting lineup from last season’s team after having no seniors on the roster for the 2023-24 season.
That starting five includes Logan Gemes (senior), Garrett Ferguson (senior), Shane Poyser (senior), Noah Siebert (junior) and Luke Henderson (junior).
Gemes was an all-conference and all-district selection last season after he led the Wildcats with 15.3 points per game. He also tied for the team lead at 6.4 rebounds per game.
Seibert had 6.4 rebounds per game as well with 8.5 points per game. Poyser contributed 6.1 points per game to go with 3.6 rebounds per game. Ferguson was the leader in assists at 2.5 per game with 8.3 points per game. Henderson missed some games due to injury last season but averaged 6 points and 3.6 rebounds to go with is team-high 1.6 steals per game.
Junior Brennen Slavens, Ryan Fajen and Brayden Henderson also return. Slavens saw some starts last season and will push for a starting spot this season. Fajen missed last season due to injury. Henderson is a consistent and solid player who will give good minutes.
Sophomores Logan Gemes and Cash Davis will have increased roles after seeing some varsity action last season.
“I think we will have more depth this year which will allow us to be more versatile with our defense,” Warsaw head coach Matt Brownsberger said. “The last two seasons we have struggled scoring. We tend to go through parts of games where we don’t score. If we can stay away from those stretches we should be fine.”
Warsaw opens the season on Nov. 26 at home against Sweet Springs. On Jan. 4, the Wildcats will travel to Knightstown, Indiana to face Lawson in the gym where the movie Hoosiers was filmed.
