Exeter girls basketball won nine games last season, which was the most for the program since 2018-19. It was also a nice bounce back from back-to-back winless seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The Tigers will look to stack even more wins this season with key players returning.
“We will be returning t starters and t other players that played a lot of varsity time, so I think we already know each other well already have a lot of chemistry,” Exeter head coach Jennifer Young said.
The returning starters are seniors Dawnee Sorensen and Trinity Atkinson along with junior Shea Hilburn.
Sophomores Beatriz Alcaraz, Jaylee Hawkins and Honesty Hall also return.
Kahlan Fuller and Gracie McCracken played junior varsity last season and saw some varsity time. Their varsity roles should expand this season.
“I think Gracie will add some quickness to our press and help us a lot on the defensive side of things,” Young said. “Kahlan will be playing a small forward position for us.”
Exeter opens the season on Nov. 22 at East Newton.
“Last year our goal was 10 wins we had 9 so I’d really like to have a 12-win season,” Young said. “Also, I would like to have a first round win at districts. We did not have a very good showing at districts last year.”
