Buffalo girls basketball has a new head coach in David Argo this season. He takes over a program coming off a four-win season.
The Lady Bison return a pair of players who averaged in double figures last season with junior Leah White and sophomore Kenzie Wilson.
White averaged 13.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore.
“Leah is a versatile player who we are going to lean on to play multiple roles for this upcoming season,” Argo said. “She is an inside outside threat who can guard multiple positions.”
Wilson had a standout freshman season averaging 14.7 pints, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
“Kenzie is going to be a crucial player for us this year because she’s going to be asked to run the point and get us in the flow of offenses and defenses,” Argo said. “Along with that she will be asked to be a consistent scorer.”
Addison Armstrong averaged 2.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore.
“Addison brings toughness to our team,” Argo said. “She’s going to be asked to be a two-way player guarding the opposing best player.”
Makayla Johnson also returns for her senior season.
“(Johnson) will be asked to give us constant effort on both ends, while adding leadership to our program,” Argo said.
Junior Grace Batt will be a newcomer.
“Grace is going to bring a lot of athleticism to our team,” Argo said. “Her continued growth will benefit our team moving forward. She has the potential to be an it factor for us.”
Freshmen Chloe Battaglia, Lexee Frazier, Jordyn Nimmo, Dayva Rodriguez and Heidi Dugan will look to make immediate varsity impacts.
Argo on Battaglia: “Chloe is going to add more depth to our post game. She is a physical player who will give us good minutes.”
Argo on Frazier: “Lexee has shown great improvement coming into this season. She will add more rebounding, and a strong defensive presents to our team.”
Argo on Nimmo: “Jordyn is going to be a strong defender for our team. She has an excellent work ethic and motor.”
Argo on Rodriguez: “Dayva is going to be a hybrid player. She will be asked to defend guards and post. She brings more athleticism to our program.”
Buffalo opens the season Dec. 2-7 at the Clinton Tournament.
“I’m excited to take over this program,” Argo said. “They have had a lot of success over the years. We have a good core, so we are going to mix our style up to see what works best for our team. With us having a young team we are going to ask a lot out of Leah and Kenzie. They will have to lead by example through hard work and making the players around them better. We are looking to build this program up, and we have a good foundation to do so.”
