No. 3 seed Hillcrest upset top-seeded Bolivar 37-33 to win the Morrisville Tournament Championship on Saturday.
After back-to-back games with at least 60 points to open the tournament, the Hornets got it done with their defense in the championship game.
Hillcrest held Bolivar scoreless in the first quarter while they built and eight-point lead. Bolivar cut that lead in half to four at 14-10 at the half. Out of the break, Hillcrest added two points to its cushion with a 9-7 advantage in the quarter to take a 23-17 lead after three. The scoring picked up in the fourth quarter with Bolivar winning the frame 16-14, but it was not enough to close the gap on the Hornets.
Nevaeh Shockley led Hillcrest with 12 points in the win. Bolivar’s Carly Cribbs scored 19 to lead all scorers. She accounted for nine of Bolivar’s first 10 points in the game.
