Halfway and Fair Play kicked off the Class 1 District 5 tournament by defending their higher seeds and advancing to the semifinal round.
No. 4 seed Halfway overcame a slow start to come back and beat No. 5 Hermitage 47-42. The Cardinals trailed 10-7 after one quarter and 25-18 at half. They cut that deficit to one at 31-30 with one quarter to go and then outscored Hermitage 17-11 in the final quarter for the win. Madi Doke scored 16 to lead Halfway. McKenzie Antle scored 15 for Hermitage followed by 14 from Gracelyn Antle.
Halfway advances to face top-seeded Walnut Grove at 5:30 pm on Thursday.
No. 3 Fair Play jumped out to a 10-2 lead on No. 6 Humansville after one quarter on the way to a 53-27 win. Chloe Bruce (13 points), Jocee Mayfield (12 points) and Mackenzie Evans (11 points) led a balanced scoring attack for Fair Play.
Fair Play will face No. 2 seed Wheatland at 7 pm on Thursday in the semifinal round.
