Class 1 District 8 was the only area district with four quarterfinals on Monday. The top four seeds all advanced.
No. 1 seed Halfway looked the part in a 62-28 win over Macks Creek. Maddox McCarthy was the high scorer for any team in the tournament on Monday with 27 points in the win. Teammate Shane Gallivan added in 12 points. Eli Charlton led Macks Creek with 13 points.
No. 4 seed Stoutland awaits the top-seeded Cardinals after beating Climax Springs 61-51. Will Morrow scored 21 to lead Stoutland. Michael Kincaid and Landon Martin each had 12 points in the win. Tanner Williams scored a game-high 22 points for Climax Springs.
On the other half of the bracket, it will be No. 2 Wheatland and No. 3 Hermitage.
Wheatland beat Fair Play 67-34 with nine different players scoring led by 21 from Nathan Sawyer. Kegan Anderson had 20 for Fair Play.
Hermitage defeated host Humansville in the closest game of the first round 57-50. The Hornets stormed back in the fourth quarter to beat the upset-minded host. The Hornets trailed 41-35 entering the final eight minutes. Hermitage outscored Humansville 22-9 in the final from to turn a six-point deficit into a seven-point win. Cash Turner led all scorers with 20 points in the win. Justin Weathers and Jaxon Wheler each had 12 for Hermitage. Humansville was led by Joseph Gordon’s 19 points.
Halfway and Stoutland will face off at 5:30 pm on Wednesday followed by Wheatland and Hermitage at 7:00 pm.
