Jasper looked every bit the part of a district title contender as a No. 4 seed in the opening round of the Class 2 District 12 tournament. The Eagles improved their record to 24-2 with a 72-41 win over Greenwood. Crystal Smith and Emmersyn Bass each scored 23 points to pace Jasper. Chloe Storm added in 10 points for the Eagles. Greenwood was led by Alyssa Newman and Elif Benzer with 13 points each.
The Eagles advance to face top seed Miller on Thursday at 6 pm in Ash Grove.
New Heights Christian used a big second quarter to pull away from New Covenant in a 74-40 win. The Cougars outscored New Covenant 24-4 in the second quarter to build an insurmountable lead. Elizabeth Fanning had 23 points for New Heights. Ella Nelson (16 points) and Kinsley Marsh (10 points) also scored in double figures. New Covenant was led by Audrey Cannefax with 11 points and Lily Green with 10.
New Heights Christian advances to face No. 2 seed, and host, Ash Grove at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
