It was a big night for Diamond in the opening round of the Class 3 District 12 girls basketball tournament. The third-seeded Wildcats beat Spokane 63-42 to advance to the semifinal round. In the process, Lauren Turner scored 26 points and eclipsed the 1,500-point mark for her career. Kabrie Parmley was just behind her with 19 points in the win. Lily Carr scored 19 points to lead Spokane.
Diamond faces No. 2 seed Pierce City at 7:30 pm on Thursday in Clever.
Sarcoxie carried a 26-11 lead at the half on the way to a 56-27 win over Southwest in the Class 3 District 12 quarterfinals. Jordyn Misner scored 20 and Remington Garrison had 18 points in the win. Yuletzie Barrios also scored in double figures with 11 for Sarcoxie. Southwest was led by 17 points from Jaretsi Quintanilla.
Sarcoxie advances to face No. 1 seed, and host, Clever at 6 pm on Thursday in the semifinal round.
