Seymour and Ava played a tight game throughout in the first quarterfinal of the Class 3 District 9 tournament. The host Tigers led 12-9 after on quarter and 21-20 at the half. In the third quarter, Ava took a 27-25 lead into the final frame. No. 4 seed Seymour outscored Ava 14-9 in the final frame to secure the win. Addison Ridenour led Seymour with 10 points. Alexis Emerick led all scorers with 22 points in the loss.
The Tigers advance to face defending state champion Fair Grove in the semifinal round on Thursday.
Sparta used a balanced attack to beat Conway 56-25 win. The No. 3 seed Trojans had eight different players score in the game led by Layne Forgey with 14 points. Sparta advances to face No. 2 seed Springfield Catholic at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
