Logan-Rogersville’s Hailey Buckman isn’t just the team’s leading scorer. She’s also in the running for the team’s best chef. Her favorite thing to bake is cookies. “Cookies, white cheesecake, chocolate chip,” Hailey said, with a laugh. “You put cream cheese in it. And then you combine these Jell-O packets that are cheesecake flavored and put those in it and they’re pretty good.”

The junior all-district guard has her own way of cooking things up on the court that works wonders too. “She’s a great representative for not only the girls’ basketball program, but the school in general,” said Cory Watts, Logan-Rogersville’s head coach. “She doesn’t get in trouble, she makes good grades, she works hard. When the gym’s open or not open she somehow finds a way to get in and work at it.”

It’s earned her a nickname with some. “I’ve been called ‘Hailey Buckets,'” Hailey joked.

It may start to really catch on. “I do like that,” Watts said, with a laugh. “We might start using that ourselves.”

And like those cookies, the recipe for the Wildcats’ success includes a secret ingredient. One only the six foot tall Hailey Buckets can provide. “We have a lot of mismatches most games,” Hailey said. “I can post up small guards and bigger guards I can take them to the rim and shoot on the perimeter.”

In November, Hailey helped lead her Wildcat volleyball team to the state championship game. Earning all-state honors in the process. And doing something similar in basketball this season is surely on Hailey’s bucket list.
