The Class 2 District 12 champion will be one who has not won a district title since before 2009 when MSHSAA started keeping track online.
No. 1 seed Pleasant Hope and No. 2 seed New Covenant each advanced to Friday’s game.
Pleasant Hope used a balanced attack to beat Thomas Jefferson 57-47 with four players scoring in double figures led by Caleb Altic with 21. Bradley Jenkins (12 points), Dayton Altic (11 points) and Bryson Craver (10 points) also scored in double figures.
New Covenant used a big third quarter to come back and beat Gloria Deo 67-62. Gloria Deo led 16-12 after one quarter and 31-28 at the half. Out of the break, the Warriors outscored Gloria Deo 19-10 in the third quarter to take a 47-41 lead into the final quarter on the way to the five-point win.
Hudson Grell kept New Covenant afloat in the first half scoring 20 of New Covenant’s 28 points in the two quarters. He finished with 28 points. Brixton Watson was the closer for New Covenant with 11 points in the fourth quarter. He finished with 22 points. Benjamin Meek had 16 points as the trio accounted for all but one of New Covenant’s points in the game.
Gloria Deo was led by Carter King’s game-high 29 points.
Pleasant Hope and New Covenant will face off in the Class 2 District 12 championship game at 7 pm on Friday in Morrisville.
