Four area wrestlers win state titles at small class state wrestling championships

The Class 1-2 boys and Class 1 girls state wrestling championships finished up in Colubmia on Thursday evening with southwest Missouri bringing home four individual championships, 30 total all-state finishes and one team trophy.

The area’s most best class was Class 2 boys where three area wrestlers won state titles and Seneca finished runner-up in the team competition.

Brant Laughlin completed an unbeaten sophomore season with a 12-9 sudden victory win over Odessa’s Kamden Hooper in the 138-pound final. Laughlin finishes the season with a 52-0 record. He was state runner-up at 126 pounds as a freshman and has a 97-4 record through two seasons.

Teammate Jace Renfro, also an all-state football player, won at 190 pounds. Renfro, now a three-time state placer, won by an 11-0 major decision over Savannah’s Braylon Ellis. He finished his season with a 48-2 record improving his career record to125-16 overall.

The two individual champions give Seneca 44 individual champions in its history according to MSHSAA, which is tied for 11th all-time.

Seneca’s second-place trophy is the ninth runner-up finish in program history and the 18th top four finish as a team. In all, Seneca had five all-state finishers.

Cassville’s Colton Roark brought home the third individual title for the area in Class 2. He pinned Hallsville’s Colt West at the 2:49 mark of the match to win at 165 pounds. Roark finishes his junior season with a 49-4 record moving his career record to 139-19 with three all-state finishes.

Class 1 boys saw seven all-state finishers led by El Dorado Springs sophomore Emory Crawford’s historic state championship at 150 pounds. Crawford pinned Lexington’s Braxton Emerson at the 3:40 mark of the match to secure the first state wrestling title for the El Dorado Springs wrestling program. Crawford posted a 47-6 record overall this season with an 89-16 career record.

In the Class 1 girls competition, Marshfield’s Carlynn Mynatt was the area’s top placer taking third at 115 pounds.
