Blue Eye upsets top-seeded Crane to win second consecutive district title

When Crane and Blue Eye met on Jan. 21, Crane carried a 14-point win which eventually earned the Pirates the No. 1 seed for the Class 2 District 11 tournament.

On Friday, Blue Eye got its revenge by using a big first quarter to upset Crane 47-44.

Blue Eye jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter. Three-point shooting was the catalyst in that first quarter as the Bulldogs knocked down four from deep led by Brady Isbell with two threes and eight points in the first quarter.

From there, Crane continually chopped away at Blue Eye’s lead cutting it to eight heading into the half and five going into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs were able to keep Crane at arm’s length and claim the program’s second straight district title.

Isbell led Blue Eye with 15 points. Braxton Bell was also in double figures with 11 for the Bulldogs.

Crane got a game-high 18 points from Owen Vaught.

Blue Eye hosts Pleasant Hope in a Class 2 sectional game at 7 pm on Monday. The program’s have met just twice in the last 13 years in 2012 and 2023. Both games were won by Blue Eye.
