Mt. Vernon & Monett advance to Class 4 District 12 semifinal round

Mt. Vernon and host Monett opened up play in a district comprised of all Big 8 Conference teams with wins on Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon got things started with a 46-39 win over East Newton. The Lady Mountaineers opened up with an 11-5 lead after one quarter and did not relinquish the lead at the end of any quarter the rest of the way.

Emily Schubert scored 19 points to lead Mt. Vernon followed by Cheyenne Bieber with 15 points. Sylvia Larsen led East Newton with 11 points.

Mt. Vernon advances to face No. 1 Aurora in the semifinal round at 6 pm on Thursday.

Monett turned in a dominant first half on the way to a 67-44 win over Seneca. The Cubs outscored the Indians 41-20 in the first two quarters.

Halle Schoen (19 points), Kilee Wilson (16 points) and Kalli Hohensee (12 points) all scored in double figures for Monett. Seneca was led by 10 points from Olivia Haase.

Host Monett advances to face No. 2 seed Cassville in the semifinal round at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
