Walnut Grove held off host Hume 40-36 in overtime to advance to Saturday’s Class 1 state quarterfinal round.
The Lady Tigers carried a 9-7 lead after one quarter and 23-18 lead into the half. Walnut Grove added a point to that lead at 32-26 with one quarter to play. In the fourth quarter, Hume mounted a furious rally taking the quarter 10-4 to force overtime.
In overtime, Walnut Grove got baskets from Rachael Kruger and Jacie Gavisk while keeping Hume off the scoreboard to secure a 40-36 win.
Walnut Grove (22-5) hosts St. Elizabeth (24-5) on Saturday in the state quarterfinal round.
