Class 6 District 5 boys basketball quarterfinal recap

The Class 6 District 5 quarterfinals saw all four of the top seeds win their games by double digits to advance to Friday’s semifinal round.

Host and top seed Nixa posted a 23-6 advantage on Neosho in the first quarter on the way to a 71-37 win. Nine different players scored in the game for Nixa with Ty Kellis (13), Adam McKnight (11), Bryce Foster (11) and Jaise Combs (11) all scoring in double figures.

Kaiden Asberry led Neosho with 13 points.

No. 4 Glendale got a game-high 26 points from Joelle Rover in a 74-55 win over Branson. Sylijah Davis had 16 and Jacan Seats 10 in the win.

Jayce Culver led Branson with 22 points.

Glendale faces Nixa in the semifinal round at 6 pm on Friday. Nixa won the regular season matchup 76-44 on Feb. 17.

On the bottom half of the bracket, No. 2 Kickapoo pulled away in the second half to beat Joplin 59-43. The Chiefs led 28-24 at the break, but they outscored the Eagles 31-19 in the second half to win the quarterfinal matchup.

Jackson Shorter led all scorers with 16 points with Elijah Nabors just behind him at 15 points. Hudson Matthiesen led Joplin with 14 points.

No. 3 Republic capped off the night with a dominant 58-25 win over No. 6 Ozark. Brenley Hagewood (26 points), CJ Uhl (16 points) and Davin Parks (16 points) accounted for all but one of Republic’s points in the win.

Kickapoo (24-3) and Republic (23-4) face off in the Class 6 District 5 semifinal round at 7:30 pm on Friday. The Chiefs won the regular season matchup 63-43 on Feb. 17.
