Top two seeds Aurora and Cassville both advanced to the Class 4 District 12 championship with wins on Thursday.
Aurora’s defense was dominant from the start in a 49-23 win over Mt. Vernon. The Houn Dawgs held Mt. Vernon scoreless in the first quarter taking a 20-0 lead after the first frame.
Kylee Cole scored 14 points to lead Aurora and all scorers followed closely by Alyssa Burch with 13 points.
Cassville pulled away in the middle quarters for a 68-44 win over Monett in the second semifinal. The Wildcats took a 13-8 lead after one quarter. In the second and third quarters, Cassville outscored Monett 48-18 to pull away.
Taylor Kennedy led all scorers with 26 points. Aubrey Stoufer and Audrey Kennedy also scored in double figures for Cassville with 10 points each. Monett was led by 20 points from Halle Schoen.
No. 1 Aurora and No. 2 Cassville will play for the Class 4 District 12 championship at 6 pm on Saturday in Monett. Aurora won the regular season matchup 51-22 on Jan. 6.
Aurora is looking for its third straight district title while Cassville has not won a district title since before 2009 when MSHSAA started putting records online.
