Nixa & Kickapoo advance to Class 6 District 5 championship game

In what has become an annual tradition, Nixa and Kickapoo will meet in a win-or-go-home playoff game for the seventh consecutive season on Monday, Mar. 10 after both teams won in the Class 6 District 5 semifinals on Friday.

No. 1 seed Nixa opened up the semifinal round with a 72-57 win over Glendale. Jaise Combs led Nixa with 21 points. Adam McKnight (19 points), Keivon Flint (11 points) and Randy Flint (11 points) all scored in double figures for Nixa.

Anthony Fletcher led Glendale and all scorers with 23 points. Joelle Rover had 13 in the loss.

Kickapoo won a much slower paced game over Republic in the second semifinal. The Chiefs had an advantage in every quarter taking a 21-15 lead at the half and a 33-26 lead after three on the way to a 46-32 win.

Jackson Shorter was the only player to score in double figures in the game with 15 points.

No. 1 Nixa and No. 2 Kickapoo play at 6 pm on Monday in the championship game. Nixa won the regular season matchup 51-43 on Feb. 11.

Monday’s game marks the seventh consecutive season the two teams have met in the playoffs. Kickapoo is 5-1 in the first six matchups.
