No. 1 seed Marshfield and No. 3 seed West Plains advanced to the Class 5 District 6 championship game with wins on Saturday.
Marshfield opened up a 19-5 lead on Webb City after one quarter and led by as many as 18 with 4:52 left until the half. Webb City continued to battle in the middle quarters chipping Marshfield’s lead down to just one, 41-40, with 2:08 left in the third quarter.
That is as close as the Lady Cardinals would get, as Marshfield closed the game on a 21-12 run to secure a 62-52 win.
Peyton Ward led Marshfield with 21 points and also pulled down eight rebounds. Izzy Cherne had 15 points and four steals for Marshfield. Tilly Greenfield led Marshfield with nine rebounds.
Webb City got a game-high 22 points from Abby Sargent. She also had six rebounds and five steals.
West Plains and Hillcrest had met twice entering Saturday’s matchup with each team winning once. The Lady Zizzers took the third meeting 72-51 behind 23 points from Ainsley McWilliams. Gillian Green (13 points), Zoe Scharnhorst (11 points) and Lucy Hafer (10 points) also scored in double figures for West Plains.
Marshfield and West Plains will play in the Class 5 District 6 championship game at 6 pm on Tuesday in Willard. The two teams split their regular season matchups with Marshfield winning 52-51 in the Pink & White Tournament on Dec. 31 and West Plains taking the regular season matchup 64-46 on Feb. 17.
