ST. LOUIS – Missouri State women’s basketball forward Lainie Douglas earned her fifth Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week award of the season, the league announced Monday (March 10).
Across victories against Illinois State and Bradley, Douglas 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 14.9 minutes per game off the bench. The freshman from Overland Park, Kan., blocked five shots, went 5-for-6 at the charity stripe and shot 43 percent from the field.
In Thursday night’s win over the Redbirds, Douglas posted seven points, six rebounds and tied her career high once again with three blocked shots. She followed that up with a 10-point, six-rebound performance in Saturday’s win against Bradley as the Lady Bears secured a share of the MVC regular-season title.
Douglas averaged 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game with 22 blocked shots and a .565 field goal percentage in MVC action this season. She also earned freshman of the week honors on January 27th and February 3rd, 10th and 24th.
Missouri State will head to the MVC Tournament later this week. As the No. 2 seed, the Lady Bears will open their tournament stay on Friday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of No. 7 UIC or No. 10 Evansville. The game will stream on ESPN+.
