It took overtime, but the Wheatland senior class went out as winners after beating Braymer 57-53 in overtime of the Class 1 third place game on Saturday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Wheatland built a 31-25 lead going into the break, but was outscored by Braymer 21-15 in the second half to force the extra period.
In the extra period, Wheatland scored the first four points thanks to Daniel Jones. Jones knocked down a pair of free throws 56 seconds into the quarter then stole the ensuing inbounds pass and put it in for a 50-46 lead for Wheatland.
The Mules never trailed again.
Wheatland was led by 17 points and seven rebounds from Nathan Sawyer. Jones scored 13 and Andrew Murphy had 10.
Wheatland finishes the season with a 28-4 record overall. It graduates a decorated senior class including Andrew Murphy, Braden Sawyer and Tucker Shaddox.
