Dixon baseball returns five starters from last season’s
“We have a great group of guys that could see great results,” Dixon head coach Solomon Weider said. “If we stay focused and ready to compete then we will see success. We have a flexible group of players that allows us to change things as needed offensively and defensively.”
The junior quartet of Drew Young, Rafen Baker, John Creamer and Avery Flaugher will lead the pitching staff. Young and Baker are starters with Creamer and Flaugher handling relief duties.
Junior Owen McKinnon and sophomore Blake Coday will be options at catcher.
The infield lineup will feature Breison Gilbert (first base), Eli Willis (first base), Eli Rujawitz (second base), Creamer (shortstop) and Baker (third base).
Look for Tanner Rice (left field), Hunter Albrecht (centerfield), Leethan Edwards (right field) and Coday (right field) in the outfield.
Rice looks poised for a big year.
“Tanner Rice has been able to step into the varsity role and contribute both offensively and defensively,” Weider said. “He has earned a starting spot in the outfield and has moved to the two-hole offensively.”
Young, Baker and Gilbert were identified as team leaders by Weider.
“Drew Young and Rafen Baker both have a very high IQ of the game and will compete,” Weider said. “Breison Gilbert keeps the team chemistry high with being able to support the team no matter what.”
Dixon opens the regular season Mar. 24-29 at the Stoutland Spring Classic.
