Joe Walrath takes over as head coach of the Gainesville softball program this season. The Lady Bulldogs won six games last season.
Walrath hopes the team can lean on pitching this season.
“I hope our pitching will be our team strength with senior Katelyn Morgan on the rubber backed up by sophomore Lakely Anderson and two freshmen Macie Phillips and Cami Strain,” Walrath said.
Freshman Amie Winrod will handle the catching duties.
Hadley Warden will play third. Mattie Cooley will be at shortstop. Anderson is at second base with Lilly Winrod handling first base to round out the infield.
Kelsey Hogan (left field), Annabelle Freeman (centerfield) and Emma McGinnis (right field) will be in the outfield.
Gainesville opens the season on Mar. 21 at the Summit Conference Tournament.
“I just want my girls to play hard and play together,” Walrath said. “I want them to make the other team beat them and not beat ourselves. I believe in my girls and know when they put it together offensively, defensively, and our pitching is good, they will be a force to be dealt with on the softball field.”
