Summit Christian used a big third quarter to help beat 69-60 Parkview in the Class 5 state semifinal round.
Parkview was leading or tied for all but 2:01 of the first half building a lead as big as six points, 20-14, with 6:23 left in the second quarter. The Vikings’ largest run in the first half was seven.
The Vikings knocked down 4-for-10 three-pointers in the first half on the way to a 28-24 lead at the half. Parkview was out-rebounded 23-13 in the first half, but held Summit Christian to 2-for-12 shooting from three and 34% from the field.
Parkview’s Eli Govan was saddled with foul trouble with three first-half fouls only playing 10 minutes in the first two quarters.
Summit Christian used a 5-0 run to start the third to take a 29-28 lead, but Parkview answered right back with a 7-2 run to get back in front by four, 35-31.
The Eagles got hot from there, closing the quarter on an 18-6 run to take a 49-41 lead after three quarters. Summit Christian Academy led by as many as 10 points, 49-39, in the third quarter.
Summit Christian outscored Parkview 25-13 in the third quarter after scoring 24 total points in the first half.
The Summit Christian lead stayed at 10, 53-43, for the first 58 seconds of the fourth quarter.

Then Parkview went to work.
The Vikings outscored the Eagles 14-7 over the next four minutes to get within three, 60-57, with 3:09 left in the game.
That was as close as Parkview would get.
Grady Ellerman hit a three with 2:11 left in the game to put Summit Christian back up six at 63-57. Govan fouled out of the game just 28 seconds later.
Summit Christian Academy held Parkview without a field goal for the final 3:09 to secure the 69-60 win.
Carlitos Sanchez led Parkview with 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Ethan Fernandez had 14 points. Summit Christian Academy got 23 points from Grady Ellerman thanks to him going five-for-six from three. Michael Thomas had a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Eagles.
Summit Christian shot 67% (16-for-24) from the field in the second half while Parkview was at 33% (9-for-27) from the field.
Parkview (19-12) plays Westminster Christian Academy (24-7) in the Class 5 third place game at 2 pm on Saturday. Summit Christian Academy (27-4) plays Webster Groves (26-5) in the championship at 8 pm.
